Each of our lives and their content are a reflection of our journey so far: I believe we can only ever find ourselves everywhere; there can never be two duelling, biblical forces, struggling for supremacy in our life, or any other dimension for that matter. There is is only “non duality” or what is known as “Advaita”..and then if one looks at the matter of whether to eat a mouth watering cookie or to employ an internal discipline that refuses the experience point blank – and remain in denial of even considering enjoying the experience – one actually experiences/ learns nothing.
It’s like a partnership or marriage between two people, as soon as they secure everything into place, it all becomes permanent and predictable and the relationship suffers and starts to die. Because predictability, permanency IS death… aliveness is destined for constant spontaneous change. Change is the very quality of life and in change we also discover all our insecurities. But the problems begin if one desires the deeper realms of life, the deeper lessons of Yoga, as a doorway into our own human evolution and its intrinsic mysteries.
We must be prepared sometimes to feel insecure – for danger,..like cookies , the unknown..tequila,..Chocolate,.. sexuality, disturbs our sobreity,..I beleive one must be prepared to move into the unknown without trying to FIX IT, or the future. Our efforts to worship these other false( P.C.) Gods of security/predictability/permanency/safety kills everything for the human spirit (and it is to experience everything that we walk around in bodies). Remember insecurity is not only alive, it is also stunning, totally beautiful,..where as security is by and large dull and sterile. If we are to awaken, as the Buddha described, and set out onto a road of consciousness, we have to have the balls and the courage to say YES to the gifts of our own life experiences… to start trusting that awakeful-ness, and that our evolution is not going to crumble like some straw house…. if evolution requires security/rules/predictability to keep it from collapsing then tell me what sort of evolution are we talking about??
The Sutras and many of the Spiritual rules avidly and unquestioningly adopted by yoga practitioners were created for those at the very start of there own tentative steps into human evolution – so it is incredibly naive to assume those same guide lines apply to every one regardless of their circumstance,..trust yourself,..and trust if you screw up…ultimately there are no real screw ups, only learning and growth… but the moment you hand over and abdicate for the safety of rules and discipline your evolution stops!… HAVE FUN… BE YOU…TRUST YOUR SPIRIT…
