All of us are addicted to our views in life as an “item”, because items can easily be controlled and thereby rendered safe. But life is not safe nor an item. It is a wild untamed creature, and cannot be confined to our ridiculously small finite margins. Life is far more powerful than the human ego and cannot be permanently manipulated and controlled. The great masters who walked this planet all gave the same council: that we can only ever allow life to possess us and to surrender and become a witness to that process.
Western life is built around the ability and concept of controlling everything. For we are terrified by what we cannot control, so life itself poses a real threat, as does love (we attempt tragically to control both of these.) Neither hold any certainties. On top of which, with the idea of allowing life or love to possess us comes the very real risk that every demon inside of our own karmic garbage will then arise. That’s why people much prefer their cute little ideas of spirituality with all its crystals and adorable inscribed angel cards, the incense and veganism and save the rainforests and,” be careful which biodegradable washing up liquid we use so we don’t wipe out too many marine species while we’re washing the dishes!” But the raw reality of life is this: “whatever you’re going through right now IS the way to go.” So keep hold of one simple thing when the demons rise up and scream in your ears: that even at these times, the very blood within the ancient riverways of your veins, capillaries, and arteries, still keep flowing on, all by its own miraculous self, (whether you like it or not!!) For in the simple appreciation of the divine functionality of life is where the real joy lays. The fact is nothing NEEDS TO HAPPEN for you to remember that you are life itself, showing up (whether you like it or not!) through the little idea of who you imagine yourself to be. So surrender. Have the courage to let go and to allow the terrible and wonderful in every moment to occur without attempting to control or itemise. Be brave, be the witness that is authentic spirituality/human evolution; this is how Buddha one day woke up.
